In this chapter, as Lee and the others finish their training, Captain Avigdor announces he is marrying Ipo. That leads to a conversation about God-and family. Roy looks at Carol, who reminds him of his beloved wife who recently passed. The Captain shares his faith, which has been strengthen by Tex. Carol shares her anger with God at the death of her mother. And Art declares he no longer believes there is a God, just needy people who made him up. To lighten the mood, Lee challenges Carol to a shooting match. After they leave the others, Carol asks him if he is thinking about courting her. It had occurred to Lee, in his heart he still wasn’t over Elizabeth. Then, Lee gets a disturbing announcement from the Texas Rangers.
