This chapter opens with Lee in the hospital, getting visits from the team, including Dung, who believes Lee will become his father. Then the little boy produces Wolf’s amulet. Lee asks to borrow the Captain’s truck to drive to Durant, Oklahoma to return the amulet to Wolf’s family. He also hopes to explain to Dung that he doesn’t want to be his dad. When they meet Wolf’s parents, Lee is astonished by their acceptance of him and Dung. They tell Lee the amulet should be returned to Wolf’s fiancé, Elizabeth, who works at Fort Washita. When Lee meets Elizabeth, he is immediately struck by her beauty. Then, as they talk about Wolf and share stories, they become emotional as Lee tells Elizabeth how he had to helplessly watch the fake colonel kill Wolf. At this point, Lee remembers the amulet, and gives it to Elizabeth
